“To love someone means to see him as God intended him.”

– Fyodor Dostoevsky

It is said that we are created in the image of God, but what we notice are the things that differentiate us from one another.  There is such variety in the family of man that it can be confusing to try to understand how all of us express the image of our Creator.  As our egos focus on the superficial things that make us unique, we often get caught up in looking for the things that separate us from each other.  How different  might our lives be if we looked past the surface of things to the heart of being human and saw in each other person the created essence that mirrors the image of God.

Think of human beings as cluttered rooms in an untidy house.  It is only when we sweep and dust and organize the surface of things that we can fully appreciate the artistry that went into painting and decorating the home that lies beneath.  Home for us — the true home placed in our hearts — is the essence of the One who created us.  What we do is important, but only if it comes from this created place and offers a new expression of the pure love and light that really defines who we are.  To love someone means to see him as God intended him. How different might our world be if we could see past the clutter of being human and instead focus on the core of another person and love that created essence into expression?  When we see that piece of another that we also recognize in ourselves, then we can love the part of all humanity that expresses what we truly are intended to be.
