Close Your Eyes and See

“I shut my eyes in order to see.”
– Paul Gauguin
We spend a lot of our time on the alert and using our brains to problem-solve. A question comes our way, and we have been taught to rely on our intellect and the rules of logic in order to find an answer. We look to others for ideas. We search for evidence that fits the framework we have used to contain the problem. We tax our minds with fitting all the pieces together until the resulting picture satisfies us. Each time we do this, we file away another set of prejudices and opinions that define for us how the world works. We are result-oriented, and we judge ourselves and others based upon our opinions of the outcomes of our answers.
This is the way our society has learned to work. This is the standard we are held to as we do our daily work. What we often miss is the opportunity to connect with something inside ourselves. We know all about thinking, but we forget about knowing.
If we close our eyes, if we take away the distractions of the world outside, if we are able to find within ourselves the balance of our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual energies, we can arrive at the place of knowing. Have you ever had an intuition that has let you to a place of discovery and resolution without analyzing your way to the answer? Perhaps that is the knowing that is part of who you are when all your aspects are balanced and you stand strong as the person you were created to be.
We were born with the ability to think, and knowing requires that we use our minds; but we also were born with wisdom of physical, emotional, and spiritual sorts. While thinking can provide us with an acceptable answer to a problem — one that others will see as worthwhile and useful, we must remember to use our knowing so that we can arrive at the place where all the pieces fit for our own greatest good.
So close your eyes, find your knowing. Pass your problem through the wisdom that lies in more than just your intellect, and see the Truth that lies within you.

When I am giving Reiki to someone, I do it with my eyes closed. In Reiki, you surrender to the knowledge that you do not know, and cannot know, what is best for anyone. I find the surrender freeing, and liberating. Probably because I spend so much of the rest of my life with my eyes wide open, trying to see, understand, and control everything else! Thanks for the post!
